New Traffic Signals on Empire Ranch Road

If you’ve driven down Empire Ranch Road recently, you’ve most likely noticed brand new traffic signals in the area.

The City of Folsom engineered and installed a series of new traffic signals to further increase motorist, pedestrian, and cyclist safety on Empire Ranch Road. The new signals will also support the safest emergency vehicle access at Folsom Fire Station 39 on Empire Ranch Road at Ritchie Street.

The new Empire Ranch signals are scheduled to become operational during the month of July. Folsom residents may temporarily experience minor delays with single-lane closures during the installation of video detection units this month.

The six new traffic signals on Empire Ranch Road are located approximately a third of a mile apart and have been placed at the intersections of East Natoma Street, Ritchie Street, Fehr Road, Broadstone Parkway, Owl Meadow Street, and Iron Point Road.

The City incorporated the most advanced technology available for the operation of the new Empire Ranch signal system.

The new signals have high-definition detection cameras, closed caption TVs, advanced controllers, and fiber optic connections. This technology allows the Public Works Department to remotely monitor and adjust traffic timing and provide proactive maintenance from the Traffic Operations Center.

The timing technology is expected to assist with smooth and safe travel through the area, allowing drivers to maximize the number of green signal lights they pass through while driving at the 45 miles per hour speed limit. Once a driver reaches speeds over the designated limit, the traffic light timing will help to slow down speeding drivers.
