The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) recognized the Johnny Cash Trail as an award-winning project in the Transportation-Related Facilities category for their 2019 awards program. The annual Excellence in Transportation Awards recognize projects that help meet the state’s growing transportation demands while protecting and enhancing the environment. The 2.5-mile Johnny Cash Trail, which was completed in the fall of 2017, provides bike and pedestrian links to Folsom’s Historic District corridor and the Sutter Street light rail station, and access to the Granite Bay and El Dorado Hills communities. The Johnny Cash Bike/Pedestrian Bridge that anchors one end of the trail also serves as a distinctive city landmark. The award was presented at the September 10 Folsom City Council meeting and recognized the contributions to the Johnny Cash Trail by city staff, Dokken Engineering, and Westcon Construction.
