Get the Facts about California’s New Water Conservation Laws
In May 2018, long-term water efficiency legislation was signed into effect that will require water providers throughout California, including the City of Folsom, to set new permanent water use targets for their service areas by 2022. The new laws provide a framework for setting water use targets, as well as implementing and enforcing the new water use requirements. These water use targets will include indoor water use, outdoor water use, and water loss due to leaks in the water system.
There are no immediate impacts to City of Folsom water customers. Over the next two years, specific water use targets will be set for the City of Folsom’s overall service area based upon the standards outlined in the laws. Many of the details are still to be determined by state agencies during the next several years, and the City of Folsom will be active in that discussion.
