What are the State Library Parks Passes?
The California State Library and California State Parks worked together to provide public libraries with passes which allow free day-use for one vehicle at more than 200 participating State Park units. About 250 passes will be available year-round to check out from the Folsom Library for up to three weeks at a time. The passes can be placed on hold in the library catalog like other library materials. There are also three group pass kits for clubs, scout troops, or extended families, which have four passes bundled together.

Where can the passes be used?
The State Library Parks Passes can be used at more than 200 participating State Park units. The pass admits one vehicle for day-use. Excluded facilities are primarily museums, off-road parks, and some of the most popular beaches which charge individual admission or have higher use fees. This link is a full list of participating and nonparticipating parks with the nearest sites highlighted in yellow. Here is a map with the closest parks to Folsom.

How long can they be checked out?
Passes can be checked out for three weeks with up to three renewals, same as books and most other items. Passes that are not returned when they are due will be deactivated so that they will not work at State Parks any longer. We also have Express passes that do not have a waitlist. These checkout for 3 weeks with no renewals.

Group Pass Packs:
The library also has two group Parks Pass packs. These consist of four passes bundled together so that clubs, extended families, scouts, or organizations can carpool to the parks together. Ask for them at the front desk or place a hold in the catalog

State Parks Adventure Packs:
The library has four backpacks that we call State Parks Adventure Packs that include everything you need to begin to enjoy California's State Parks: 2 guide books, 3 folding pocket wildlife guides, 1 monocular or binocular with case, 1 magnifying glass, 1 laminated list of participating day-use CA state parks, 1 laminated map of participating CA state parks near Folsom, and 1 laminated park visitor experience survey. Ask at the front desk for availability when you pick up your pass.
